Where I Come From – PREMIER, Trafo Hungary 2021
During the summer, a group of young people from different social backgrounds between 18-23 take part in a creative community process led by Theatre In Education professionals and artists. Participants are youngsters from Budapest with disadvantaged backgrounds, others having immigrant parents (and already speak Hungarian) and members of Trafó’s previous education workshops.
They camp together in Trafo and in Aba to create an imaginary village where they form their rules and values together. Meanwhile, they reflect on coexistence, on being a European and on their sense of home. They play and experiment in search of either common grounds or differences – the outcome of which is shown in August in a cross-genre performance.
The project leaders Emese Nagy, Balázs Perényi and Anna Szepes used drama education exercises and games to promote joint creation and group cohesion. Hungarian and foreign artists enriched the process with workshop sessions of different artistic disciplines related to the theme.
