Maral Mamaghanizadeh

Birmingham, UK

Maral Mamaghanizadeh is a Deaf Iranian Jewellery maker artist. Her work explores the barriers encountered in everyday life, being Deaf, female and a refugee. She communicate through my artworks, combining feminism and cultural politics. Her aim is that my jewellery has a story. As both an artist and a narrator, Maral depicts the wearer’s character through the jewellery she makes. The primary material that she uses to create jewellery is human hair, though recently she has been exploring ceramic materials.

Maral’s international, cross cultural experiences have developed my interpersonal and critical skills as well as improving my level of understanding of contemporary Jewellery & Crafts.

After completing her MA in 2017, Maral became a political refugee as my work, ‘The Politics of Voice; The Tale of Tresses’ directly challenged the patriarchal society in Iran. Maral has now been granted permanent leave to remain in the UK.
